Snowflake Challenge Day 12

In your own space, rec at least three fanworks that you think would make a good intro into XYZ fandom. Rec a fandom overview, a introductory picspam, stories that define and shape the fandom.

I'm not going to do this one exactly as it says in the challenge. What I'm going to do is rec the fics that I remember from when I first got into the fandom, the ones that stand out in my mind as shaping my introduction to it, selling me on my early favorite pairings or just sticking in my mind for whatever reason. And I've been around for like four years so these are going to be older fics, from 2008-2009 or earlier.



In no particular order:

6. Balrog Roike's The Darkness Within - G1, Skyfire/Starscream

8. The old kink meme in general

9. LStarrunner's To Be Sparked - G1, Skyfire/Omega Supreme

10. anon_decepticon's After Atlantis - G1, Wheeljack/Trailbreaker

And I have to mention art:

11. The Transformers threads on /y/ and TFG on /co/ for fanart. When I was new to the fandom, Transformers Friday on /cm/ was more of a thing, but it's dropped off to nothing lately - I don't think there even was one this month.


There were a lot of good fics on transfictions.net that I don't think ever got reposted after the site went down, but I want to mention a few of them. There was a Hound/Mirage fic called "Getting Into Character" and a Mirage-centric fic called "In Merciful Hands," both of which I saved on my computer but without making a note of who the authors were. I have vague recollections of several Prowl/Jazz fics I didn't save but wish I had - even though it's never been one of my absolute favorite pairings, I did read a lot of it when I was new to the fandom, and I attribute that to a couple of now-lost fics from transfictions.net that I enjoyed.

Yeah, the whole site did. I think someone tried to get it started up again but lots of fics were never re-uploaded.

4chan is what got me investigating Transformers again. I think the first baymovie sparked my interest, but not enough. It was little threads on /co/ that did it. Then I saw the porn, and was like "HA! Robot sex. XD"

And then, one day, robot sex was hot.

Its like magic.

Yeah, it was an offhand crack someone made about Transformers slash in the comments on a wank report about something else entirely that made me want to poke at the fandom, and my first reaction to the robot porn was something like "LMAO, you've fucking got to be kidding me." Actually the very first Transformers fic I read was about Starscream being molested by a tentacle rape monster, and it was shit, but I wanted MOAR.

I got into Transformers fandom because merkitten told me in a discussion one day that giant alien robot porn is surprisingly hot. Needless to say I had to investigate this phenomenon for myself.
... and now I find robots way, way hotter than humans.

It was a surprise to me too, but the fanart convinced me of the potential hotness of robot porn before the fic did. I didn't really start reading the fic seriously until after I'd started saving slashy fanart off 4chan.
