Snowflake Challenge Day 6

In your own space, rec at least 3 fanworks you thought you wouldn't like (because they weren't your fandom or they pushed against your boundaries or you thought you just wouldn't be interested) and that you ended up loving.

1. Trapped, by TSBP (G1, Frenzy, mpreg). I don't like mpreg, as a rule. This fic is one of two exceptions (the other being a grimdark kink meme fill). Very well written, excellent characterization, good pacing, good balance and use of more than just the core characters (that's something that makes or breaks long fics for me). I think the whole robo-mpreg thing is handled well - not too technical, not too hand-wave-y. Also, I usually don't like fic where a Decepticon defects to or is taken in by the Autobots, but again, I think TSBP handles the scenario well, with enough conflict to make it work. She touches on consent issues in a way that doesn't woobify Frenzy, and IMO it's all very believable. Also, I'm not a big Ironhide fan, but I really like him in this fic.

2. Strictly Business, by anon_decepticon (TFA, Lockdown/Swindle, non-con). I didn't really care for Transformers Animated, hadn't even seen the whole series, and avoided reading TFA fanfic when I saw this. But I love anon_decepticon's writing, so I decided, on a whim, to give it a try. I knew it would be well-written even if I wasn't sure I'd be able to get into it because I ~didn't like TFA and I didn't remember the episode it referenced or feel like I knew the characters well.

I'm so, so glad I did. This fic is the fic that got me hooked on TFA and shipping Lockdown/Swindle (yeah, rape fic - I don't even know. No comment). The fic was so good that it didn't really matter that I wasn't familiar with TFA, and a_d did a fantastic job pulling off writing non-con as dark humor without detracting from the fucked-up-ness of it.

3. That TF:Prime Watersports Fic on the Kink Meme, (TF:Prime, Megatron/Starscream). Again, I didn't like the continuity when I saw this fic, and watersports isn't really something I make a point of reading. Not a squick, I'm just indifferent to it. I wasn't going to read this fic, but I kept seeing people talking about it, and specifically, I kept seeing people talking about being so grossed out by the premise that they weren't going near it, or about reading it and being squicked hard by it. Now, I'm the kind of person who, if lots of people are talking about how gross/horrible/brain-scarring something is, will immediately seek that thing out to see for myself what the fuss is about. So after seeing someone make a crack about it for the thousandth time on TFG, I was like "fuck it, I'm reading that fic." And... I liked it. I mean, that kink is not my kink but the fic was kind of hot. And absurd Transformers porn is the best kind of Transformers porn, and watersports is definitely an absurd kink for Transformers.

Hmm, I know and like your #2 and #3, but I haven't read or even heard of Trapped. I think I will have to give it a shot now, because it seems like we have similar-ish tastes. (This based on all of the recs you've given so far for the Snowflake Challenge.)

I highly recommend it, especially if you're in the mood for reading something long. It's a WIP and lately she's been updating slowly, but it's worth the wait for new chapters.

Go and read Trapped, seriously. I HATEHATEHATE mpreg fics, and I can't rec it enough. It does for mpreg what I like to think After Atlantis did for rape, i.e., takes a topic normally poorly handled in fanfic and treats it with gravity and respect. It's far more nuanced than your average mpreg fic - hell, it's the first one I've encountered that even acknowledges the fact that even wanted babies aren't all sunshine and rainbows 24/7. And as [livejournal.com profile] iiiskaaa mentioned, many lesser-known characters get decent roles in it, too.

Oh yeah, the third one.

I shamelessly admit to liking that one too. Which surprised me to, but kink meme made so many of my squicks into kinks I'm not surprised anymore, terrified - a bit, surprised - not.

XD

Haha, yeah, I love the kink meme. There are so many kinks I never read before but add robots, and suddenly I'm all over them.

Haha, thanks for sharing that! :D Now I'm off to read those fics as they sound yummy >:3

You should, they're all really good!

Me too. It looks like I may have found my Friday night's entertainment! Thanks :)

Haha, no problem!
